🈶 A Note from Dr. Jawad Akram
People ask me: is it really worth learning Chinese in 2026? My answer from inside China is: more than ever before. China is Pakistan’s largest trading partner, the driving force behind CPEC, and the destination of tens of thousands of Pakistani students every year. Mandarin is no longer a niche skill — it is rapidly becoming a professional advantage in Pakistan’s job market, medical sector, and business community.
I speak functional Mandarin myself — not because I studied it formally, but because I lived in China. That is exactly the point. There is no faster or more effective way to learn Chinese than to study it while living inside the country. Students who complete even a 6-month language program here return to Pakistan with a skill set that genuinely separates them in job interviews and business negotiations.
For medical students — a language foundation year before MBBS or BDS is not just useful, it is often the difference between struggling through clinical rotations and thriving in them. I guide every medical student I work with to seriously consider this step.

Understanding HSK Levels — What Will You Achieve?
HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) is the official Chinese government language proficiency exam — recognised by universities, employers, and scholarship programs worldwide. Here is what each level means and what you can realistically reach through our programs:
| HSK Level |
What You Can Do |
Vocab |

| HSK 1 |
Basic greetings, numbers, daily phrases |
150 words |
Travelers, first-timers |
| HSK 2 |
Simple conversations, shopping, directions |

Short-term visitors |
| HSK 3 |
Communicate in most daily situations |

| HSK 4 |
Discuss wide range of topics fluently |
1,200 words |
1-year program target ✓ |

2,500 words |
Chinese-taught degree applicants |
| HSK 6 |

💡 For MBBS/BDS Students: Most Chinese-taught medical programs require HSK 4–5. A 1-year language foundation program brings you to HSK 3–4. For English-medium medical programs, even HSK 2–3 dramatically improves your clinical experience with patients. Scholarship Navigator advises every medical student individually on the right HSK target.

Dr. Jawad’s Note: The 1-year program is my strongest recommendation for medical students. A full year gives you deep language immersion, takes you to HSK 3–4, and prepares you mentally and culturally for 5–6 years of studying and living in China. Students who skip this step often struggle more in year 1 of their degree.

A Week in the Life — What Does Studying Chinese in China Actually Look Like?
Most students have never lived abroad before. Here is an honest, practical picture of what a typical week looks like on a Chinese Language Program — from someone who has been there.
📚
Monday–Friday Mornings
Classroom Learning — 3–4 Hours Daily
Classes run from around 8:00–12:00 AM. You cover listening, speaking, reading and writing in small groups of 10–20 international students. Teachers are experienced Chinese language instructors — classes are structured but interactive, not lecture-style.
🍜
Afternoons
Real-World Practice — The Most Effective Classroom
Afternoons are free — and this is where real learning happens. Ordering food at a local restaurant, buying vegetables at the market, asking directions, chatting with your Chinese dormitory neighbour. Every daily interaction is language practice. Within weeks this becomes instinctive rather than effortful.
🕌
Friday Prayers & Weekends
Muslim Life in China — Comfortable and Manageable
Every major Chinese city has mosques accessible to international students. Halal food is widely available near university campuses. Pakistani student communities are active on WeChat — someone always knows the nearest halal restaurant or mosque. Ramadan and Eid are observed within the international student community.
🏯
Weekends
Travel China — The World’s Most Diverse Country
High-speed trains connect every major Chinese city cheaply. Students regularly visit the Great Wall, West Lake in Hangzhou, karst mountains in Guilin, ancient towns in Anhui, and neon-lit megacities like Shanghai. This is not just language study — it is one of the most extraordinary life experiences available to a Pakistani student.
💰
Monthly Budget Reality
What Your Money Covers

Career Opportunities With Mandarin in Pakistan & Abroad
Mandarin is not just a cultural skill — in 2026 it is a professional asset with real salary and career implications in Pakistan, the Gulf, and globally.

💡 The Mandarin Premium: In Pakistan’s current job market, candidates who list Mandarin proficiency (HSK 3+) alongside their professional qualifications are increasingly shortlisted first for roles involving Chinese counterparts — whether in CPEC companies, international trade, or government liaison roles. This is a skill gap that will only widen as Pakistan-China economic ties deepen.

Frequently Asked Questions — Chinese Language Program
Do I need any prior knowledge of Chinese to join?
No — absolutely not. Programs start from complete beginner level. Whether you have never seen a Chinese character before or have some basic knowledge, there is a class level suitable for you. The university will assess your level at the start and place you in the right group.
Is Mandarin hard to learn for Urdu/Punjabi speakers?
Mandarin is genuinely different from Urdu or English — it is a tonal language with a character-based writing system. However, Pakistani students consistently perform well in language programs because Urdu speakers already have strong memorisation habits and a comfort with non-Latin scripts. Most students reach HSK 2–3 within 6 months and HSK 3–4 within a full year. The key is consistent daily practice — which happens naturally when you live in China.
Can I use the language program as a foundation before MBBS or BDS?
Yes — this is one of the most popular reasons students join our Chinese Language Program. A 1-year foundation program before MBBS or BDS helps you reach HSK 3–4, prepares you for clinical communication with patients during hospital rotations, and eases your cultural adjustment to living in China. Students who complete a language year before their medical degree consistently report a smoother first year. Dr. Jawad strongly recommends this step for medical students going to Chinese-taught programs.
How much does the HSK exam cost and how do I register?
HSK exam fees in China range from approximately ¥300–600 (PKR 11,400–22,800) per level depending on the test level and format (paper-based or computer-based). Most universities help language students register for the HSK exam during or at the end of the program. You can also register independently at hsk.neea.edu.cn. Scholarship Navigator advises students on when and how to register for the most cost-effective attempt.
Can I work in China after completing the language program?
A language student visa (X1 or X2) does not permit employment in China. However after completing your language program you can transition to a degree program (and gain a new X1 student visa) or return to Pakistan and use your Mandarin skills professionally. Some students who reach HSK 5–6 and wish to work in China can eventually apply for a work visa through an employer — but this is a separate process after completing your studies. Scholarship Navigator advises students on all post-program pathways.
Which cities can I choose from for the language program?
Scholarship Navigator offers Chinese Language Programs across multiple cities in China — from small affordable cities (¥5,000/year) to major cultural and business hubs (up to ¥10,000/year). The right city depends on your budget, goals, and personal preferences — whether you want the cheapest option, the best cultural experience, or proximity to a specific region. WhatsApp us with your preferences and we will match you to the best available option.
Will I receive an HSK certificate after completing the program?
The language program prepares you for the HSK exam but the certificate is obtained by taking the official HSK test separately — it is not automatically awarded upon program completion. Most universities help students register for and sit the HSK exam during or at the end of the program. Passing HSK opens doors to degree programs and scholarship applications in China. Scholarship Navigator advises you on the right level to target based on your goals.
Does Scholarship Navigator charge a fee for language program guidance?
The initial consultation — where we recommend the right city, university, and program duration for your budget and goals — is completely free. For students who proceed with full application support, a service fee applies. We are transparent about fees from the first conversation. Contact us via WhatsApp for current details →
