💻 A Note from Dr. Jawad Akram

When Pakistani students ask me whether studying Computer Science in China is worth it, my answer is: in 2026, it is one of the smartest decisions a tech student can make — but only if you understand what China’s tech ecosystem actually offers and choose your city strategically.

I am based in China. I see the technology sector here from the inside. The scale of China’s AI, hardware, and software industry is something that no brochure can fully convey. Students who study CS here graduate with something most Pakistani CS graduates do not have — direct exposure to the world’s most active technology market. Huawei, Alibaba, ByteDance, DJI — these are not names on a list. They are companies your classmates will intern at while you are studying.

The scholarship reductions I have negotiated through Scholarship Navigator’s direct university connections make this even more compelling. ¥2,000 per year for a CS degree inside Zhongguancun — China’s most famous tech zone — is not something you will find anywhere else in the world.

Why Study Computer Science in China in 2026?

China is no longer just a manufacturing economy. It is the world’s second-largest technology market, home to 4 of the top 10 global tech companies by market cap, and the leading country in AI patent filings since 2020. For a CS student, studying inside this ecosystem is not just academically valuable — it is a career accelerator that students studying in Pakistan or even Europe cannot match.

Frequently Asked Questions — CS in China

Do I need any special exam to apply for CS in China?

No — there is no special entrance exam or certification required. For BSc programs a strong FSc Pre-Engineering result with Mathematics is sufficient. For MSc programs a Bachelor’s degree in CS, IT, Software Engineering or a related field is required. Scholarship Navigator confirms exact requirements for your specific target university before you apply.

How much will I actually pay after the scholarship?

At our Guangzhou partner the original tuition of ¥34,000/year is reduced to under ¥10,000/year — approximately PKR 380,000. At our Beijing region partner the original fee of ¥12,000/year is reduced to just ¥2,000/year — approximately PKR 76,000. The Beijing option is one of the lowest CS tuition fees available anywhere in the world for an English-medium program.

Which city is better — Guangzhou or near Beijing?

It depends entirely on your goals. Guangzhou and the Greater Bay Area is ideal for students interested in hardware, tech industry, manufacturing technology, fintech, and business applications of CS — with companies like Huawei, DJI and Tencent nearby. Near Beijing is better for AI, machine learning, software research and academic CS — with Baidu, ByteDance and China’s top research institutes nearby. It is also significantly cheaper at ¥2,000/year. Not sure which fits your profile? WhatsApp us.

Is a CS degree from China recognized in Pakistan?

Yes. CS degrees from recognized Chinese universities are accepted by HEC (Higher Education Commission) Pakistan for employment and further study purposes. Unlike medical degrees, CS degrees do not require a separate licensing exam — graduates can work directly in their field. Scholarship Navigator only recommends HEC-recognized institutions.

Do I need to learn Chinese to study CS in China?

No — both programs are fully English-medium. You do not need Chinese language skills to complete your degree. Basic conversational Chinese is helpful for daily life and for internship interactions with Chinese colleagues, but it is not a requirement for admission or graduation. Many students pick up basic Mandarin naturally during their time in China.

Are there real internship opportunities near the universities?

Yes — both locations offer genuine internship opportunities, not just theoretical access. Guangzhou is adjacent to Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area with Huawei, DJI, and hundreds of tech companies operating nearby. The Beijing region is home to Baidu, ByteDance, Lenovo and China’s top AI research institutes. Scholarship Navigator actively helps students connect with internship opportunities during their program — this is part of our ongoing student support.

Can I do MSc CS in China if my Bachelor’s was in a different field?

It depends on the specific program and how close your Bachelor’s subject is to CS. Students with degrees in IT, Software Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics often qualify. Students from completely unrelated fields (e.g. Commerce, Arts) typically need to apply for bridge courses or a pre-MSc program. Contact Scholarship Navigator with your specific qualification and we will advise you honestly on your options.

Does Scholarship Navigator charge a fee for CS admission guidance?

The initial eligibility check and university recommendation is completely free. For students who proceed with full application support — document preparation, submission, scholarship confirmation, visa guidance, and pre-departure briefing — a service fee applies. We are fully transparent about fees upfront. Contact us via WhatsApp for current details →
