🎓 A Note from Dr. Jawad Akram
I have been based in China since 2019 and have personally guided over 100 students through the CSC Scholarship process. In that time I have seen the same mistakes repeated — students who submit through the wrong route, write a study plan that reads like a Wikipedia article, or choose universities without understanding CSC quotas. These mistakes are entirely avoidable with the right guidance.
The CSC Scholarship is competitive — but it is not out of reach for a Pakistani student with 65–70% marks if the application is prepared correctly. I have seen students with 80% marks get rejected and students with 65% get accepted. The difference is almost always the study plan, the university selection strategy, and the recommendation letters.
This guide covers everything I tell my own students before they apply. Read it fully before you prepare a single document — and if you have questions, WhatsApp us. The eligibility check is free.

What is the CSC Scholarship?
The Chinese Government Scholarship — commonly known as the CSC Scholarship — is a fully funded scholarship program managed by the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) under the Ministry of Education of China. It is offered to outstanding international students who wish to pursue Bachelor, Master, or PhD degrees at top Chinese universities.
It is one of the most generous scholarship programs in the world — covering 100% of tuition, free university accommodation, a monthly living stipend, and comprehensive medical insurance for the full duration of your degree. For a Pakistani student, this means studying at a top Chinese university with zero financial burden for 4–6 years.

Monthly Stipend 2026 — In RMB and PKR
The CSC stipend is paid monthly and is enough to cover your living expenses in China comfortably — especially outside major cities like Beijing or Shanghai.
| Degree Level |
Monthly Stipend (RMB) |
Monthly (PKR Approx.) |
Annual (PKR Approx.) |
| 🎓 Bachelor’s Degree |
¥2,500 / month |
~PKR 95,000 / month |
~PKR 1,140,000 / year |
| 🎓 Master’s Degree |
¥3,000 / month |
~PKR 114,000 / month |
~PKR 1,368,000 / year |
| 🎓 PhD Degree |
¥3,500 / month |
~PKR 133,000 / month |
~PKR 1,596,000 / year |
💡 Reality Check: A Master’s student on CSC receives PKR 114,000/month stipend — more than most entry-level salaries in Pakistan — while studying for free. This is why the CSC Scholarship is transformative for Pakistani students from middle-income families.
CSC Type A vs Type B — The Most Important Decision You Will Make
This is the question Scholarship Navigator gets asked more than any other — and most students don’t understand the difference until it is too late. Getting this wrong wastes your entire application year.
| Feature |
Type A — Embassy Route |
Type B — University Route |
| How You Apply |
Through Chinese Embassy in Islamabad OR through HEC Pakistan |
Directly to Chinese university — no embassy or HEC |
| Competition Level |
Very High |
✅ Moderate — Recommended |
| Quota System |
Pakistan has a fixed national quota — all applicants compete for same seats |
Each university has its own quota — you compete at university level only |
| University Choice |
You can list universities but embassy/HEC makes final assignment |
You choose your university directly — full control |
| Min. Marks (Typical) |
75%+ strongly preferred — highly competitive |
65–70% often sufficient with strong documents |
| Pre-Admission Letter |
Not always required |
Required — contact university first and secure pre-admission |
| Dr. Jawad’s Recommendation |
For students with 80%+ marks and very strong profile only |
✅ Recommended for most Pakistani students |
⚠️ Dr. Jawad’s Warning: Most Pakistani students apply Type A through HEC — and most get rejected because they are competing with thousands of applicants for a fixed national quota. Type B (direct university) is less known, less crowded, and gives you direct control over where you study. Scholarship Navigator exclusively uses Type B for the students we guide — and our success rate reflects this.

How to Choose the Right CSC Universities — Strategy Guide
University selection is where most students make their second biggest mistake after choosing the wrong route. The CSC portal allows you to list up to 3 universities. Here is how to use those 3 choices strategically.
🥇 Choice 1 — Your Target University
Your first choice should be the university you genuinely want to attend. Research CSC quota availability, your field of study strength at that university, and whether they have a Pakistani student community. Contact the international office before applying — Scholarship Navigator does this for you.
🥈 Choice 2 — Similar Level, Different City
Your second choice should be a university of similar academic standing in a different city — to avoid competing for the same limited quota pool. Do not put two top-tier universities as choices 1 and 2 unless your profile is extremely strong.
🥉 Choice 3 — Your Safety University
Choice 3 should be a university where your academic profile comfortably exceeds the typical acceptance threshold. This is your backup — if choices 1 and 2 don’t come through, choice 3 keeps you in the program for that intake year.
⚠️ Common Mistake: Listing Tsinghua, Peking University, and Fudan as your three choices when you have a 65% academic record. These universities have extremely limited CSC quotas and very high competition. Scholarship Navigator matches universities to your profile — not your wishlist — to maximise your actual chances of receiving a scholarship.
The Study Plan — The Most Important Document in Your Application
The study plan is the single document that separates successful CSC applications from rejected ones. It is your opportunity to show the selection committee that you are not just qualified — you are the right person for this specific program at this specific university.
✅ What Makes a Strong Study Plan
• Specific mention of the university and why you chose it
• Clear academic background and how it connects to your chosen program
• Concrete research goals or career objectives
• How studying in China specifically serves your goals
• What you will do after graduating — back in your home country
• 800–1,200 words — detailed but focused
❌ What Gets Your Application Rejected
• Generic text that could apply to any university or any student
• Copy-pasted from the internet or AI-generated without personalisation
• No mention of the specific university or faculty
• Vague goals: “I want to learn and grow” — not acceptable
• Under 500 words — shows lack of preparation
• No clear connection between your background and the program
Why CSC Applications Get Rejected — And How to Avoid It
After guiding 100+ students through CSC applications, these are the most common reasons for rejection — and exactly how to avoid each one.
1
Generic or AI-generated study plan
Selection committees read thousands of study plans. A generic plan is identified immediately and rejected. Every study plan must be tailored specifically to the university, department, and professor you are applying to.
2
Wrong university selection for your profile
Applying to top-tier universities with an average academic record wastes your application. Scholarship Navigator matches your academic profile to universities where your chances are realistic — not where your aspirations are.
3
Weak or irrelevant recommendation letters
Recommendation letters from teachers who don’t know the student well — or that are clearly template-filled — do not help. Strong letters are specific, personal, and speak directly to your academic ability and research potential.
4
Applying Type A when your profile suits Type B
Students with 65–70% marks who apply through HEC (Type A) are competing against students with 80–85%+ for a fixed national quota. Switching to Type B (direct university) significantly improves their odds with the same academic profile.
5
Incomplete or incorrectly formatted documents
Missing notarization, wrong document format, expired passport, or incomplete physical examination form. Any one of these disqualifies an otherwise strong application. Scholarship Navigator does a full document review before submission.
6
Submitting after the deadline
Different universities have different internal deadlines that are earlier than the official CSC portal deadline. Many students miss this and their application is automatically disqualified. Scholarship Navigator tracks all university-specific deadlines for our students.

Frequently Asked Questions — CSC Scholarship 2026
Is the CSC Scholarship really fully funded?
Yes — the CSC Scholarship covers 100% of tuition fees, free university accommodation or accommodation subsidy, monthly living stipend (¥2,500–3,500 depending on degree level), and comprehensive medical insurance for the full duration of your degree. You do not pay any fees to the university and receive a monthly income to cover all living expenses.
What is the difference between CSC Type A and Type B?
Type A is applied through the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad or HEC Pakistan — you compete against all Pakistani applicants for a fixed national quota. Type B is applied directly to the Chinese university — you compete at university level only, with far fewer applicants. Type B is less competitive, gives you direct control over university selection, and is the route Scholarship Navigator recommends and uses for all students we guide.
What percentage is needed for CSC Scholarship from Pakistan?
The official minimum is 60% but in reality competition varies by route and university. Type A (HEC/embassy) typically requires 75%+ to be competitive. Type B (direct university) can be achievable with 65–70% if your study plan, recommendation letters, and university selection are correctly prepared. Scholarship Navigator has helped students with 65% secure CSC scholarships through strategic Type B applications.
Can I apply for CSC Scholarship without IELTS?
Yes — for English-medium programs, most Chinese universities do not require IELTS. A language proficiency certificate from your school or university, or a language interview, is typically accepted instead. For Chinese-medium programs, HSK 4–5 is required. Contact us to confirm requirements for your specific program and target university.
How many universities should I list on the CSC application?
The CSC portal allows up to 3 university choices. You should use all 3 strategically — one target university, one similar-level university in a different city, and one safety university where your profile clearly exceeds the typical acceptance threshold. Never list all three as elite universities if your profile is average — this is a common reason for rejection. Scholarship Navigator selects all three university choices for the students we guide based on profile-matching.
Can Pakistani students apply for the CSC Scholarship?
Yes — and Pakistani students are among the most active CSC applicants globally due to the strong China-Pakistan relationship under CPEC. Pakistan has a dedicated quota allocation in the Type A route. For Type B, Pakistani students are welcome at all CSC-listed universities. Scholarship Navigator has helped more Pakistani students than any other nationality — we understand the specific requirements, embassy procedures, and university preferences for Pakistani applicants.
Can I apply for CSC and Provincial Scholarship at the same time?
Yes — applying for both simultaneously is a strategy Scholarship Navigator actively recommends for students who want maximum chances of funding in the same intake year. They are separate applications submitted to different bodies. You cannot hold both simultaneously if awarded both — but you can choose the better offer. The simultaneous application strategy doubles your chances at no extra cost. Contact us for guidance on running both applications together.
Does Scholarship Navigator charge a fee for CSC guidance?
The initial eligibility check and profile assessment is completely free. For students who proceed with full application support — university selection, study plan writing, document preparation, submission, and visa guidance — a service fee applies. We are transparent about fees from the first conversation and only take on students we genuinely believe have a realistic chance. Contact us via WhatsApp for current details →
